Choosing your accommodation
This page introduces typical accommodation options available and provides some tips for making the right choice for you.

The University of St Andrews guarantees an offer of accommodation to all UK/EU and overseas first year undergraduate students* provided all the following conditions are met:
- You are coming to the University alone.
- You are studying for the full academic session.
- You have accepted your offer to study at the University
- Your application is received by 30 June in the year of entry.
- You have met all the offer conditions and accepted your unconditional offer from the University/UCAS by 31 August in the year of entry.
- You have accepted your offer of accommodation within 10 days of the offer being sent to your email address.
*Please note: In years of exceptionally high demand, students who live within a reasonable commuting distance will not be offered accommodation until a room becomes available. This may be after the start of semester.
Whilst a limited amount of accommodation is available to returning undergraduate students, we cannot guarantee you a place within University accommodation after your first year.
Each year, the University allocates some accommodation specifically for postgraduate students.
Prospective postgraduate students are able to apply for University accommodation once they have accepted their offer to study be it a conditional or unconditional offer.
Some students will be eligible for the Overseas Postgraduate Taught Student Guarantee and should check here: Postgraduate | Student accommodation | University of St Andrews (st-andrews.ac.uk) to the conditions and eligibility criteria.
If you are not eligible for the guarantee, you can still apply for University accommodation, however, accommodation will be limited and you may not hear about the status of your application until mid-August. Students who are not eligible for the guarantee are strongly encouraged to continue to explore private sector options to ensure you have accommodation ahead of the start of the semester.
